Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train Review: An Anime Masterpiece of a Movie

By Gaming Ulysses

Alright to start this off, I have not read any of the Demon Slayer Manga. It is on my list of mangas to read. I know nothing of what happened in the manga to slightly compare to the movie, with that out of the way. I have to say Mugen Train has to of jumped on the top ten list of favorite anime movies for me. Mugen Train is a Demon Slayer movie without a doubt and adds more depth to the next season coming soon. With the way Mugen Train ended, it excites you too see how our demon killing heroes have to get ready for.

Lets start with visually. As we know Demon Slayer has a mix of 2D and 3D visual combined and this movie cranks this up to an 11. From the jump the movie really pops visually, with every fight scene the colors shinning bright, the mixing of different forms of art work combined make everything just so visually appealing to the eye. The bright blue colors, the deep red with glowing orange and the mix of yellow and and orange, beautifully make the fight scenes you can see just pop out, making you feel like your right there in the train with them. Even with the few times your there listening to exposition, the animation of the movie does not falter in any scene. It seems like the animators and artist really put some heart and soul to this movie.

Next, the writing in Mugen Train is a simple story to follow, not saying that its poorly written. Its a simple story that really brings the best in most if not all the characters in this movie. Also, do we really need that much in depth to each character to make a movie great? Everything flows from beginning to end without missing a beat, and not losing focus on the main story of the movie. With a run time of 1 hour and 59 minutes, this movie doesn’t outlast its stay, jumping us from problem to problem in a smooth manner that makes sense. We know what everyone has to do and what they have to fight, what they have to survive, all while making sure we are not lost in the process. There is little comedy in this, but I have always found Inosuke and Zenitsu to be hilarious, but it never takes you away from the movie, if anything its a warm welcome to the dark things we see.

Mugen Train is a wild and fun rollercoaster of a movie. Keeping you on the edge of your seat, while visually keeping your eyes glued to the screen. I will rate this movie a 10/10. A must see in theaters to experience and a must own when it comes out on Blue-Ray.
